This urn is made entirely from American Birch with a beautiful wavy figure in the grain that shimmers in changing light. The traditional dovetails that join the corners of the box are a timeless, functional detail that has marked high-quality woodwork for centuries. The lid features a frame-and-panel design with reinforced mitered corners. The hinged lid opens to a separate top compartment that allows for a wide range of memorabilia to remain close at hand, and the panel provides plenty of space for laser-engraving a memorial, for instance. The upper compartment is lined with red faux suede fabric that makes a vibrant contrast with the golden-brown wood.

The main compartment is accessed, and secured, by a plywood bottom panel fastened with screws. The box and lid exterior are finished with several coats of a traditional wiping varnish, which offers long-term protection as well as a lovely look and feel. Interior surfaces, including the bottom of the lid, are finished with a traditional shellac coating that does not impart an odor to the interior of the box.
